It has been reported that there has been a surge in the popularity of colouring books for adults.
Attributed to ‘anti-stress’ benefits and nostalgia, sales are rising as people take up coloured pencils, pens and crayons to ease stress and spark creativity. We all know working with your hands is one of the best ways to soothe anxiety.
On a well known website you can find books filled with templates of exquisite scenes that include forests and animals, as well as simple or intricate, sophisticated patterns, prompting you to meditate on your artwork as you mindfully fill the pages, and hone your focus. Just take a few minutes out of your day, wherever you are, and colour your way to Nirvana.
There are no rules, you can simply scribble away using your favourite colours, increasing focus through creativity, helping those who find it difficult to unwind, or struggle to find their inner artist when faced with a blank page. Simply doodle and colour in any way you wish to create unique and exquisite pieces, or just scrawl and shade to your hearts’ content.
You don’t have to be able to draw, just sit down with a drawing, immerse yourself and everything else can fall away for a while, giving you a sense of peace. By engaging multiple parts of the brain, colouring allows us to concentrate on the lines, movements, and colours in front of us, firing your imagination, and bringing a sense of calmness.
